Juventus win Coppa Italia for the third time in a row

Juventus's bid to win a domestic and European treble moved one step closer on Wednesday night.

Massimiliano Allegri's side won their first trophy of what they hope will be a historic season, by winning the Coppa Italia Final in Rome against Lazio.

A 2-0 win over the Roman rivals, saw Juventus win the game with goals from Dani Alves and Leonardo Bonucci in the first half. It's a record twelfth time the side has won the competition and the first time they have won the domestic cup three times in a row.

The win over Lazio could make a golden two-and-a-half weeks for Juventus. With a four-point lead at the top of Serie A, they could win the title this weekend with a win over Crotone on Sunday. If Roma and Napoli both fail to win on Saturday, Juventus will be crowned champions that evening.

On June 3rd, they could complete the first treble in the club's history if Real Madrid are defeated in the Champions League final. Juve's two previous European Cup wins came in barren domestic seasons where they failed to win the Serie A or Coppa Italia titles.

Wednesday's win over Lazio is the first time an Italian side has successfully defended their Coppa on two consecutive occasions. The team continues to write new chapters of Italian football history books.

On the 2009-10 Inter Milan team was won the treble.
