Check out Kane and Sterling's peripheral performances in graphics

Substitutions change games and it's clear that Roy Hodgson's alterations in England's 2-1 win over Wales worked to a tee.

Daniel Sturridge and Jamie Vardy not only scored but also showed the ineffectiveness of the players they replaced in light relief.

Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling were hauled off at half-time for the Liverpool and Leicester pair after second consecutive below par performances.

Sterling was very hit and miss against Russia on Saturday- more miss as his end-product was poor - while Kane was below-par and was the subject of much focus as he ended up on set-piece duty despite the existence of more expected names.

Sterling's shots and passes

Sterling was savaged on social media against the Welsh and as Opta's graphics show, he was peripheral as an attacking threat with few passes and one shot off target, despite England dominating possession. His performance was symbolised by one glaring miss.

Kane's shots and passes

Kane, too, is not carrying the form of his Tottenham season into the tournament with just two shots at goal and he could be sacrificed for Vardy by the time England play Slovakia next.
