The 2016 Olympic Games in Rio have already been hit with their fair share of problems.

From construction delays that mean facilities may not be ready to concerns over safety, Rio is already dealing with a lot of different issues.

Furthermore, with golf set to make its debut at the Games, a number of the sport's biggest stars have decided that the they will not be traveling to Brazil.

While Adam Scott stated that it was too much given his already packed schedule, Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry and Jason Day have all claimed that their fears over the Zika virus are what's driving their decision to drop out.

Boxer Katie Taylor, however, believes that they're simply using that as an excuse. After Day's announcement she took to Twitter to ask what excuse they would have used had it not been for Zika.

Speaking about the issue on Off The Ball, Padraig Harrington said that the golfers are making the decision together with their families, and are deciding not to take any risk.

"Ultimately I think there's more than one person making the decision for a lot of golfers, because the majority of golfers are married with young families or starting families."

He also admitted that while there may be some element of concern over the virus, the event itself still has a long way to go before making an impact at the Olympics.

"Yes, there are other golfers who don't rate the Olympics like they do Majors," said Harrington. "There are 16 Majors between each Olympics, so one Olympics is not a big deal to a lot of players.

"But look at the tennis. A lot of players didn't want to play that when it started off, but now it's a much bigger event. Give it time and it will grow on the players."
