Keane candid on "irritating" Mourinho but says he has the credentials for Manchester United

Roy Keane believes Jose Mourinho is the right man for the Manchester United job despite harbouring doubts on a personal level about the former Chelsea manager.

The 53-year-old signed a three year deal with the club during the week and is tasked with driving United out of obscurity and into Europe's elite club competition again while ensuring they challenge more forcefully for domestic titles in the coming years.

Keane says it was an obvious choice but would be quicker to refer to Mourinho as "The Irritating One" opposed to "The Special One".

“He was always going to be a good option when United didn’t qualify for the Champions League,” Keane told ITV Sport.

“He was available, fantastic CV and it seems like a good fit, but maybe he is not for me.

“He is not my cup of tea. I found him really irritating when I coached against him, but that is just a personal thing, but working at Man Utd is all about winning and his CV will tell you he is a winner.”

Keane's comments might stem from the time Mourinho tried to shake both Lambert and Keane's hand before the final whistle during a tie between Chelsea and Aston Villa in 2014 as "digraceful". The Cork-man said, "“The game is still going on, you wouldn’t do that on a Sunday morning, you would get knocked out.”
