Kell Brook 'stopped enjoying food' to make weight for title defence

IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook says he has stopped enjoying food as he aims to make the 147lbs weight limit ahead of this weekend's title defence.

The Briton faces American Errol Spence on Saturday night at Bramhall Lane and says despite his good training camp, he has had to be focused on making weight.

"I've been looking at food differently," he told Sky Sports. "I've not been enjoying it, I've just been looking at it to fuel me through my next workout.

"I've had to stay professional in this camp and I've had to be switched on for a while. But I feel good. I'm close to the weight. 147lbs here we come."

Brook comes off the back of a defeat to Gennady Golovkin last September, when an eye injury caused a fifth round stoppage in their world middleweight title bout in London.

Bouncing back from that, Brook says his camp in Fuerteventura has been one of the best he's had.

"I've had a really good camp. I did a lot of cycling, got through a lot of miles out there. We're drinking plenty of fluid and waking up not as stiff because of the heat.

"We've done hard sparring, but really good sparring. I've done what's been asked of me and I've been hitting all the targets. I couldn't be any happier at this moment."

Commenting on his opponent, Brook added: "He's a very good fighter. He's a hungry young lion. He's challenging for the world title. I've been there and I know what it takes. I know what he's feeling.

"I'm also world champion and I know what it's like to defend that world title. I've seen both sides of the coin."
