Kenny Cunningham explains why Man United's first goal at Wolfsburg should be a "eureka moment"

Kenny Cunningham believes Manchester United's first goal against Wolfsburg tonight should provide a "eureka moment" for the team.

The Reds are out of the Champions League after a 3-2 defeat in Germany but did take the lead through Anthony Martial:

Speaking to Off The Ball, Kenny feels it showed another approach to the patient possession instilled by manager Louis van Gaal.

"If you look at the United first goal, that's really typical on the whole argument around United at the moment in terms of patient build-up, playing plenty of short passes, don't take any chances with your passes," he said.

"That first goal from Martial for Man United was absolutely brilliant in its simplicity. Daley Blind got the ball 10 yards inside his own half, fizzes a clever little 20-yard ball into the feet of Juan Mata, gets turned one-touch, plays a clever straight ball behind the Wolfsburg defence and Martial's in. Two passes and they're in within three or four seconds, they're in a one vs one situation. If that's not a eureka moment, I don't know what is. Why make 10-12 or 14 or 16 passes when a simple 15-yard pass will get you where you want to get to."
