Kerry and Donegal handed fines of over €7,000 for brawl at the weekend while one player receives a ban

Both Kerry and Donegal have been issued fines of €7,500 for their part in the violent hostilities during their National League clash at the weekend while Donegal defender Neil McGee has been handed a ban.

Two red cards and two black cards were produced during the opening first half of their Division 1 encounter which has ultimately resulted in the The Central Competitions Controls Committee distributing the fines.

In addition, Donegal defender Neil McGee has been handed a one match ban, having been adjudged to have interfered with Alan Fitzgerald's fingers. McGee was left with a bloody nose as a result of the altercation, resulting in the Kerry atacker receiving a red card.

The decision means that McGee will miss Donegal's upcoming League game against Roscommon this weekend, a side who continue to prosper in Divsion 1.

Donegal manager Rory Gallagher declined to comment on the incident earlier in the week, while Donnchadh Walsh said the rainy conditions coupled with the respect held between the opposing teams, is what caused tensions to spill over.

“I don’t know, I suppose maybe they beat us in 2012 and then we beat them in the championship, obviously in the final two years later, so, look, we’ve great respect for each other.”

“I think that’s it, we’ve great respect for Donegal; they have great respect for us. It’s just two committed teams going out wanting to win every 50-50 ball and that’s what the crowd came for, that’s what the Donegal support came down for and why the Kerry supporters came and packed out Austin Stack Park today was to see two teams go at it.”
