Kevin Doyle has stated that he doesn't plan on retiring from international duty any time soon, as he looks ahead to the next chapter of his career.
The Ireland international has returned to the fold after missing out on making Martin O'Neill's squad for the Euros, and is hoping that he can add to the 62 caps he already has for the Boys in Green.
Doyle has just come off the back of a disappointing loss for his Colorado Rapids in the Western Conference Finals in Major League Soccer, as Seattle Sounders progressed and will face Toronto FC this weekend with the title on the line.
However, the retirement of Robbie Keane has seen plenty of speculation over who could fill in as the striker that can produce goals for O'Neill, and Doyle's strong form in MLS has seen him work his way back into the squad.
Speaking to RTÉ, Doyle said that having been out of contention for a while, he had thought about giving up on international duty, but his hunger to make it back into the squad is now greater than ever.
"After seeing it from the other side, being out for a year, to come back is really enjoyable. You do miss it," said the Wexford man.
"To meet the lads you you’ve played with for years, just to catch up and be in that training environment and try to play for your country - I’ve really enjoyed coming back and being involved again."
Speaking about his decision to play in America rather than drop down the levels in England, Doyle said that he knew it would be a little bit more difficult to put his hand up for a green jersey, but wanted to gain some new experiences.
"It does affect my chances a little bit but I’m getting picked, I’m in the squad. I knew that at the time and it wasn’t going to change my decision.
"I’ve lots of caps for Ireland and I’d love to get a few more. While I’m a professional, I’ll keep myself available for selection."
