Kieran Donaghy and Paul O'Connell autobiographies make the eir Sports Book of the Year shortlist

The shortlist has been announced for the eir Sports Book of the year, with five titles in line for the award.

The final shortlist features a range of sports with the winner expected to be named on Monday December 5th and will succeed last year's winner Dub Sub Confidential, by John Leonard.

This is the second year for this award and the final shortlist includes:

‘What do you think of that?’ written by Kieran Donaghy with Kieran Shannon; Rob Heffernan's Autobiography, ‘Walking Tall’; ‘Out of Control’ by Cathal McCarron with Christy O’Connor; ‘The Battle’ by Paul O’Connell and ‘Spirit of '58’ written by Evan Marshall.

Speaking after the shortlist was announced, Brian Quinn, Operations Director of eir Sport  said:

"We are delighted to announce the shortlist for the eir Sport Sports Book of The Year. It was a difficult task for the judging panel to narrow it down to five contenders this year. This shortlist reflects a diversity of writing styles and subject matters."

"The five shortlisted books and authors will be the subject of five separate specialist programmes broadcast on eir Sport detailing their respective books. The overall winning author will receive a €1,500 cash prize, a specially commissioned trophy and €10,000 worth of TV advertising on eir Sport."

"eir Sport wishes to commend each author and publisher who submitted books for the award with special congratulations to the five authors and publishers on the final shortlist."
