Kim Si-woo makes history at The Players Championship

South Korea's Kim Si-woo has become the youngest player to ever win the The Players Championship.

The 21-year-old finished on -10, three shots clear of Louis Oosthuizen and Ian Poulter. He is the second South Korean to win the title, after KJ Choi was triumphant in 2011.

Kim started Sunday's final round in fourth place, two shots behind overnight leaders JB Holmes and Kyle Stanley. He shot a final round of 69.

Showing experience beyond his years, Kim failed to hit a bogey in the final round. He recorded his third birdie on the ninth and scored nine consecutive parts on the back-nine to record the biggest win of his career.

Despite Kim's win, he looks set to spend two years away from the game. All Korean men must take part in military service. The Korean Government have made numerous exceptions to the rule, with major-winning golfers among those who do not need to serve. Despite winning golf's "fifth major", Kim still plans to sign up to the army.

"I really wish we could have that benefit. However, regardless of me winning this tournament, I really have to go to the military service, and I've already decided I'm going to go, too, so I'm ready for that."

Ian Poulter's tie for second place with Oosthuizen caps a memorable comeback for the Ryder Cup star. Only last month, he thought he has lost his PGA Tour card only for a miscalculation in his earnings due to a medical dispensation.

Poulter is now inside the top-60 of the FedEx Cup rankings. His tour card is safe for another year.

Spain's Rafa Cabrera-Bello finished in a tie for fourth. His round was helped by an albatross on the par-5 16th hole. It was only the third albatross in the history of the tournament and the first on that hole.

Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell both had disappointing final rounds. McIlroy finished in a tie for 35th place on +2. McDowell shot a final round of 80 to finish on +9.
