Klopp sounds pessimistic note on Sadio Mane injury

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says it is possible that Sadio Mane's season could be over.

The club's top scorer this season went off in Saturday's Merseyside derby win over Everton with a knee injury following an innocuous challenge from Everton left back Leighton Baines.

Swelling is preventing the club from knowing how bad Mane's problem is.

But Klopp says it does not look great with a full prognosis still required.

"It's not 100 percent clear. We made an assessment and scan but we have to wait a little bit until the knee is not that swollen anymore," said the Liverpool manager of the Senegalese forward.

"The only thing what I can say for sure is he will not be available for tomorrow. All the rest, we have to see. It's not very positive, let me say it like this. We cannot say what it is exactly, so we have to wait for that."

Liverpool face Bournemouth on Wednesday at Anfield.

The Reds are third in the Premier League table, 10 points behind leaders Chelsea having played a game more.

Mane has been a key part of their hunt for a Top Four place, operating in a fluid front trio with Brazilian duo Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino.

The former Southampton player has scored 13 Premier League goals during the 2016-17 season - his best goals record since moving to England in 2014 and also continuing his record of hitting double figures in every Premier League season.
