Koeman sets deadline for Barkley over Everton future

Everton manager Ronald Koeman says Ross Barkley has until next week's final Premier League game to decide whether he wants to stay at Goodison Park or go elsewhere.

The club is working on a new contract for the England midfielder.

But Koeman has no intention of waiting for Barkley if he stalls much longer before making a final decision.

"I think if you need so much time, then you have doubts," said Koeman, before saying "no, no", when asked if that concerns him.

"Because I like to work with players who like to stay. We have already tried to get players in for next season in the front positions."

Koeman also discussed how much time Barkley has at his disposal before revealing his decision to Everton.

"Still one week, time for him to decide. The board is working a long time for Ross to stay for a long period," said the Dutchman.

"It's up to the player but we don't wait until August. Next week we need an answer if he will accept the contract or we sell the player."

Everton will definitely finish 7th in this season's Premier League. With two matches to go, they are seven points behind sixth place Manchester United and 13 points above eighth place West Bromwich Albion.
