UEFA will vote on May 3rd whether to let Kosovo become its 55th member.

It declared independence from Serbia in 2008.

Should Kosovo be approved as a member, it is likely it'll seek full membership of FIFA, with the hope of competing in qualifying for the 2018 World Cup.

Thus far, the Kosovan national team has been playing in unofficial friendlies against countries including Turkey, Senegal and Haiti.

A number of current Swiss internationals like Stoke's Xherdan Shaqiri and Borussia Monchengladbach's Granit Xhaka are of Kosovan descent which would make them eligible for Kosovo in theory.
