Lampard and Villa to sign for New York City FC

Frank Lampard and David Villa have reportedly agreed to join MLS side with New York City FC.

The Mirror reports that the current England and Spain internationals have met with officials from the newly founded MLS franchise – New York will compete for the first time next season – at Manchester City’s Carrington training complex on Saturday. Lampard has reportedly signed on a free transfer, with Villa due to join the midfielder in the near future.

The deals would mark a major statement from the Manchester City owned U.S. side, with both players in World Cup squads and Villa having played a central role in Atletico Madrid’s incredible season. Lampard played 40 times in all competitions for Chelsea this season.

Lampard has been with Chelsea for 13 years, following his singing from West Ham in 2001 for £11m. In his time at the club he has become the Blues’ record goalscorer with 211 goals and won three Premier League titles, the Champions League, Europa League, two League Cups and four FA Cups.
