Laois captain Ross King details "fairly crazy" win over Kerry

Despite playing almost the entire match with 14 men, Laois were able to preserve their Division 1B status and send Kerry to a season of action in Division 2A.

The game was forced to extra-time, but it was Laois who prevailed on a scoreline of 1-30 to 4-20 against their Munster counterparts.

Speaking to Midlands Radio after the game, Laois captain Ross King discussed a "fairly crazy" contest.

"It was unbelievable," he said. "I suppose we had one man down [Neil Foyle] after five minutes and we didn't know what way it was going to go. But in the history of us, playing against 14 men [...] 14 men almost work harder.

"We said that when we went in at the end of the game. We were inviting a lot of play onto ourselves. Their spirits were lifted and our spirits were dying down. We were inviting them onto us.

"We got the first three points in the first half of extra-time. That changed the momentum. It was a psychological thing more than anything."

King also explained that as well as retaining their Division 1B status, the result is important in the immediate future as well.

"They beat us three times in the last three games, so to get one over them is a big thing. It's probably a little incentive there for the Championship as well.

"We laid down one marker and we have them down there again in five weeks time. It's only the first leg of two big matches I suppose."

He added: "Moral victories are what we're trying to put behind us and get a few proper victories. Starting tonight [Saturday] we're looking into a few weeks off and then a big round robin campaign.

"We've a week off now, so we might have a pint tonight."
