LeBron James refuses to stay in Trump-branded New York hotel

Cleveland Cavaliers are in the middle of a three-game road trip that concludes on Wednesday night against the New York Knicks in Madison Square Garden.

The NBA Champions have has their accommodation sorted for the road trip for well over a month, and had booked the Trump SoHo hotel to stay in, before the US Presidential Election.

James, along with a number of other players have decided not to stay in the hotel, that bares the name of the President-elect. Cleveland's General Manager David Griffin confirmed the news to Cleveland.com.

Ahead of last month's election, James and teammate J.R. Smith endorsed Hillary Clinton at a pre-election rally in Cleveland. The Democratic nominee lost Ohio by nearly 150,000 votes to Trump.

The stance of James and some of his teammates is not the first of this kind regarding Trump hotels, but it's certainly the most high-profile. Since the election, the Dallas Mavericks, Milwaukee Bucks and Memphis Grizzlies have all boycotted Trump Hotels around America.

Mr. Griffin added that the hotel in New York is the only Trump-branded hotel the team are scheduled to stay in this season, and will stay in other accommodation for games against the Brooklyn Nets.

The team have two more games to play in New York before the end of the regular season.
