Leaked photos from Arsenal's London training ground appear to confirm that Granit Xhaka has joined the club from Borussia Monchengladbach.
The Swiss midfielder has been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent transfer windows but Arsene Wenger has moved quickly to secure his services ahead of Euro 2016.
The fee is believed to be in the region of €36 million and fills a hole in the squad that has existed for quite some time.
Wenger has been criticised for his unwillingness to spend money on a defensive midfielder with Francis Coquelin, Matthieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta all trying to fill the void. Xhaka could prove to be the perfect foil for a player like Coquelin with Jack Wilshere remaining unable to stay fit and Aaron Ramsey never quite convincing in that deeper role.
The French manager has faced further criticism for his side's inability to stake a claim for the Premier League this season but an early signing in a position of need will ease the pressure on the Arsenal boss.
