Leeds United part company with Steve Evans with Garry Monk tipped to take over

Leeds United have announced that Steve Evans has left the club with Garry Monk an early favourite to replace the 53-year-old.

The Italian owner, Massimo Cellino, was quick to thank Evans for doing the job he was brought in to doin helping Leeds to stave off relegation and helped them to 13th in the table last season but says it is time to move on.

“I would like to thank Steve Evans for his efforts as the head coach of Leeds United.

“Steve completed the job he was brought in to carry out – to keep the team in the Championship - and his hard work here has been greatly appreciated. I wish him and Paul Raynor the very best for the future.

“We have, however, decided that a different approach is required in order to achieve our targets for the new season.

“The club is now looking to appoint a new head coach to build on the good work of Steve and Paul and deliver the special season which our supporters deserve.”

Evans is the fifth manager in under two years to leave the club and Cellino could be banned from all football activity later this week as he is charged for an alleged illegal payment made during Ross McCormack's transfer to Fulham in 2014.
