Leicester will appeal Jamie Vardy's red card

Leicester are planning to appeal Jamie Vardy's sending off from their Premier League draw against Stoke at the weekend, according to Sky Sports.

The reigning Premier League champions argue that Vardy had been knocked off balance and momentum carried him into the challenge on Mame Diouf. Vardy is expected to receive a three-match ban for the tackle, while the FA are understood to be issuing an automatic fine to Leicester, after six of their players received yellow cards in Saturday's game.

Five of the bookings took place towards the end of the first half in the bet365 Stadium.

The red card was issued after Vardy was seen apparently lunging at Diouf with a two-footed challenge after a tussle for possession in the first half.

The timing of the incident is particularly cruel for Vardy. Last weekend, he helped Leicester stun title contenders Man City by hitting a hat-trick and bringing his 16-game goal-scoring drought to an end.

Ranieri indicated after the game that the club would consider the possibility of challenging Vardy's red card if there was any possible avenue available to them, while Stoke manager Mark Hughes said he thought that referee Craig Pawson made the right call.

If the ban is imposed, Vardy will miss upcoming games against Everton, West Ham and Middlesbrough. After a terrible start to the new season, Leicester are just three points clear of relegation.
