Less practising is the key to Dimitri Payet's free-kick success

Dimitri Payet has revealed the secret of his free-kick prowess this season. Surprisingly he claims that stopping practising free-kicks in training has helped improve his accuracy.

The French international joined West Ham at the start of this season. The 29-year-old has scored 12 times this season in all competitions.

Many of those goals have come from free-kicks. His strike against Crystal Palace last weekend was widely regarded as one of the best goals of the season.

Speaking to West Ham TV this week, the French international revealed that he has stopped practising since scoring against Bournemouth in January.

“Since that game I have not been practising as I have been happy with the way I am hitting the ball so I am carrying on with that technique and now I just take a few before each game when I am warming up.”

Such has been Payet's impressive form in recent weeks, he has forced his way into the French squad in recent weeks, scoring an outstanding free-kick against Russia.

West Ham (and Payet) are back in action this weekend against Arsenal on Saturday afternoon at Upton Park. The game is the final London derby to take place in the Boleyn Ground before the stadium closes at the end of the season.
