Lewis Hamilton secures pole in Spain

Lewis Hamilton will start on pole for tomorrow's Spanish F1 Grand Prix.

The three time world champion was fastest in qualifying and also first in both practice sessions in Barcelona.

Hamilton is ahead of Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel and Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas.

Vettel's Ferrari team-mate Kimi Raikkonen will start in fourth place.

The Red Bull pair of Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo have qualified fifth and sixth respectively.

After a difficult season so far for the Honda powered McLaren, Spanish home favourite Fernando Alonso managed to take seventh place on the grid for Sunday's Grand Prix.

Force India are 8th and 10th thanks to Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon, sandwiching Williams' Felipe Massa who qualifies ninth.

Ahead of the start of the European season in F1, four time champion Vettel leads the title race on 86 points, 13 clear of three time champion Hamilton.

Hamilton's Mercedes team-mate Valterri Bottas, who won his first Grand Prix last time out in Russia, is third in the championship, 10 points behind the British driver.

Hamilton and Vettel have both won the Spanish Grand Prix once during their careers, while Verstappen won last year for his maiden win and Raikkonen has triumphed twice, as has Alonso.
