Lewis Hamilton to start on pole at the Austrian Grand Prix

Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton has qualified on pole position for Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix.

The Mercedes driver finished ahead of World Championship leader and teammate Nico Rosberg. The German driver will start the from seventh after being given a five-place grid penalty after changing his gearbox before qualifying.

Hamilton will be joined on the front row by Force India's Nico Hulkenberg. The 28-year-old has yet to finish on the podium since beginning his Formula 1 career in 2010.

Jenson Button rolled back the years to finish in fifth place, but will start Sunday's race in third. Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel was fourth-fasted in qualifying but was also given a five-place grid penalty.

Despite getting the pole position, Hamilton was not fully pleased with his fastest lap. "I could have been faster!" he told the gathered media in the press conference.

The British driver is 24 points behind Rosberg in the Driver's Standings after a fifth placed finish at the European Grand Prix last month in Baku.
