Liverpool face holders Sevilla in the Europa League final as they sink the Yellow Submarine

Liverpool are through to the 2016 Europa League final after defeating Villarreal at Anfield tonight.

The Reds had lost the semi-final first leg 1-0 in Spain last week, but fought back to win 3-0 tonight in their first home match since the Hillsborough inquest verdict.

The Reds could now qualify for the Champions League if they beat holders Sevilla in the final in Basel, Switzerland on May 18th.

Sevilla will be hoping to secure their fifth UEFA/Europa League title and third in succession after beating Shakhtar Donetsk in their second leg match tonight.

Liverpool made a fast start to overcome their own 1-0 deficit against Villarreal.

An own-goal by defender Bruno after just seven minutes gave the home side the perfect start and second-half goals from Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana sealed the win after the Spanish side had to play the final 20 minutes with just 10 men following a second yellow card for defender Victor Ruiz.
