Liverpool hammer Stoke to keep pace with the leaders

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool kept pace with the leading pack with a relatively comfortable 4-1 win over Stoke City at Anfield.

Liverpool attacked from the off and went close a number of times before John Walters put the visitors ahead against the run of play in the 12th minute.

The Republic of Ireland international ghosted in ahead of Dejan Lovren to power a header past Simon Mignolet at his near post.

Stoke had a chance to double their lead but Mignolet saved from Joe Allen and the defence took care of the rebound.

The home side drew level when Adam Lallana capitalised on a poor clearance from Glen Johnson to smash the ball into the net at the Kop end.

Livepool took the lead late in the first half when Firmino was given time in the box and his shot eventually found the back of the net after hitting both posts on the way in. Liverpool took a 2-1 lead into half-time.

The home side continued to press after the break and the pressure eventually paid dividends. Giannelli Imbula diverted an Origi cross into his own net although Mane probably would have scored had the defender not intervened.

Daniel Sturridge got onto the score sheet as well after he collected a wayward back pass from Ryan Shawcross before rounding Grant in the Stoke goal and putting the result beyond doubt.

The win moves Liverpool back into second place in the premier league, six points behind leaders Chelsea and a point ahead of Man City - who they play at the weekend.
