Liverpool to play in Dublin this August

Liverpool FC have announced they will play in Dublin this summer.

Jurgen Klopp's side with play Spanish side Athletic Bilbao in the Aviva Stadium on August 5th. The match takes place three days after Manchester United play Sampdoria in the same venue.

It is the second time Liverpool will have played in the stadium. In May 2013, a weakened and youthful Liverpool side defeated Shamrock Rovers in a friendly 4-0.

It's the first time Liverpool and Bilbao will meet since they sides met in the European Cup in 1983-84. Liverpool won the Second Round tie 1-0, with Ian Rush scoring the only goal in Spain.

Speaking to Liverpool's website, Rush said: "We always get such an amazing reception in Dublin. Even though this is a friendly game, I’m sure our incredible Irish supporters will make the atmosphere just as good when we meet Athletic Club this time around."

The game will take place a day after Liverpool find out their opponents for next season's Champions League Play-Off. Athletic Bilbao finished in seventh place in La Liga, and will compete in the Europa League Third Qualifying Round two days before the game in Dublin.
