Luis Enrique to leave Barcelona at season's end

Barcelona manager Luis Enrique will not be in charge at the club next season.

Speaking after his side's 6-1 La Liga win over Sporting Gijon on Wednesday night, the 46 year old has announced that he will not be manager beyond this season, stating in a press conference that, "I wont be Barcelona coach next season. I need to rest.

"I would like to thank the club for the confidence they have shown in me, it's been three unforgettable years."

He added: "It was a very hard decision to reach and one that I've thought a lot about."

Barcelona confirmed his intentions on social media.

Enrique, who played for Barcelona between 1996 and 2004, has come under increasing pressure this season.

Two weeks ago, the Catalan club lost 4-0 to Paris Saint Germain in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie, all but certainly knocking Barcelona out of Europe.

While the win over Sporting Gijon lifts Barca to the top of La Liga, Real Madrid have a game in hand and the season has generally been underwhelming for the club he led to the La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League treble in 2014-15 - his debut campaign as manager.
