It has emerged that former Liverpool and England captain Steven Gerrard has been in contact with MK Dons about their managerial vacancy.
The League One club parted ways with Karl Robinson on October 23rd and sit 21st and in the relegation zone.
Richie Barker has been serving as caretaker boss.
Gerrard confirmed his departure as a Los Angeles Galaxy player this week after 18 months in Major League Soccer.
That has sparked speculation about his immediate future with Celtic linked with a move for him.
However, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers played down the possibility of signing his former Liverpool captain.
BBC Sport have confirmed that Gerrard is "one of numerous candidates" for the vacancy at MK Dons but that it is not clear if taking that role would spell the end of his playing career definitively.
In terms of his coaching qualifications, he is on the penultimate badge, as he studies for his UEFA A Licence.
The UEFA Pro Licence is the final step for managers at the highest level such as the Premier League.
