Man City close in on John Stones swoop as Pep Guardiola confirms interest

Manchester City are close to signing Everton defender John Stones according to reports.

A fee believed to be about £50 million has been agreed between the two clubs which would make him the most expensive English player of all-time.

According to The Sun, Everton rejected an initial £40 million deal but will now sanction the increased bid.

City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that the club are trying to sign Stones.

The City boss has admitted that they're interested but won't give much else away.

"There's a player from Everton, everyone knows we're going to try and I don't know what's going to happen. What I can say is that I'm so happy with the squad we have, the way they train and the way they play, so in that way, that's all I can say," he said.

Stones joined Everton from Barnsley in 2013, and was named in England's squad for their Euro 2016 campaign.
