Man City edge Leicester in eventful clash

Manchester City have taken another step towards UEFA Champions League qualification.

They are up to third in the Premier League after picking up a 2-1 win at home to last season's champions Leicester.

David Silva scored the opening goal for Pep Guardiola's side after 29 minutes with a low shot, although Leicester's players protested the goal due to Raheem Sterling's offside positioning as the ball headed towards the net.

Gabriel Jesus doubled the lead 10 minutes before half time from the penalty spot after Leroy Sane was felled in the box by Yohan Benalouane.

But Leicester gave themselves hope of a result after Shinji Okazaki volleyed in four minutes before the break.

With the game heading into the final 10 minutes of normal time, Leicester had a chance to level after Gael Clichy's foul on Riyad Mahrez in the box.

But while Mahrez's penalty found the back of the net, the referee Robert Madly disallowed it as Mahrez slipped and struck the ball with his left foot onto his standing right foot, meaning a double hit and free out.

City held on for a 2-1 victory and move closer to securing a Top Four place.
