Man City overturn Everton but refereeing call causes controversy

Manchester City are into the Capital One Cup final after defeating Everton in tonight's semi-final second leg.

Trailing 2-1 from the first leg, Manuel Pellegrini's side won 3-1 at the Etihad tonight, but there is controversy over City's second goal.

Everton appeared to put one foot in the final early on when Ross Barkley ran at the City defence and fired in the Toffees' goal from the edge of the box to make it 3-1 on aggregate 18 minutes in.

But City gave themselves a lifeline six minutes later when a wicked deflection allowed Fernandinho's long-range shot to evade Everton keeper Joel Robles and find the back of the net.

But City's second of the night with 20 minutes to go will disappoint the Everton fans.

Raheem Sterling broke into the box and cut the ball back for Kevin De Bruyne to score. But replays showed that the ball had crossed the byline before Sterling pulled it back.

And to add insult to injury, Sergio Aguero headed in City's third, although Pellegrini will be concerned about De Bruyne who was stretchered off with a leg injury.

City will now face Liverpool in the final on February 28th.
