Man United release Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been released by Manchester United after one season at the club.

The veteran Swedish footballer made a positive impact for the club last season but a serious knee injury ended his campaign in April and he is not expected to return for a number of months.

Man United have opted not to offer the player a new deal as expected.

The 35 year old scored 28 goals in all competitions last season as Jose Mourinho's side finished sixth in the Premier League, won the EFL Cup and the Europa League.

Ibrahimovic's departure was confirmed with his inclusion on the Premier League released players list.

Among the other players released by Premier League clubs are Yaya Sanogo (Arsenal), Joey Barton (Burnley), John Terry (Chelsea), Arouna Kone (Everton), John O'Shea (Sunderland) and Alvaro Arbeloa (West Ham).

Gael Clichy, Jesus Navas, Pablo Zabaleta, Bacary Sagna and Willy Caballero are all among those released by Manchester City, although those departures had already been confirmed by the club last month.
