Manchester United hold talks with Jose Mourinho representatives - Reports

Reports emerging today indcate that Manchester United have held talks with representatives of Jose Mourinho regarding the possibility of him taking over for Louis van Gaal.

According to the Manchester Evening News, both sides have met to hold talks but that a deal is yet to be struck between the parties.

Manchester United sit in fifth position in the league, five points adrift of Arsenal and Tottenham.

"This week's announcement that Pep Guardiola would take over at City had no bearing on United's movements, since club suits were convinced the Bayern Munich coach had agreed to take over at the Etihad last year" the paper reports.

United have remained quiet over suggestions that they will not allow Louis van Gaal to see out his tenure at Old Trafford, which finishes at the end of next season.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that should Mourinho take over, he would begin in the summer instead of midway through the season.

"United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward tightened United's links with Mourinho's agent, GestiFute head Jorge Mendes, last season with the record signing of the super-agent's clients Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao's loan before David de Gea, also represented by Mendes, signed a new contract in September" the paper continues.

Mourinho has won titles in England, Italy, Portugal and Spain and has in recent weeks said to have written a letter to Manchester United declaring his interest in the club.
