Manchester United have reportedly been keeping a close eye on 18-year-old Renato Sanches in recent weeks and appear close to striking a deal with Benfica for the player.
According to the Daily Mail, United's top brass decided to move for the Benfica man now rather than in the summer for fear that a rival will swoop for his signature as interest grows. They have watched him three times in his last four games and are keen on sealing the deal. A good showing from Sanches at Euro 2016 could increase interest further and it appears United are not willing to take the risk.
The Portuguese midfielder has been valued at close to €80 million but United believe they can sign the player for half that with potential add-ons. Representatives from both clubs met in London during the week, according to the report, which is the second meeting as a deal appears to be close.

In other news, Jurgen Klopp has said "We have to watch the market, to think about what makes sense for us now plus for the summer" in his most recent press conference as speculation mounts over the signing of Brazilian Alex Teixeira.
Shakhtar Donetsk reportedly want €50 million for the striker and Liverpool are considering upping their bid from the initial €32 million they offered.
Another report suggests that "the clubs are far apart in their valuation of Teixeira with the Shakhtar owner, Rinat Akhmetov, seeking €50m for a forward who has scored 22 goals in 15 league games this season."
Jurgen Klopp's hand has been forced due to injuries to Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge and the poor form and poor fit of Christian Benteke. While €50 million seems like a stretch, Liverpool will have to invest plenty of money over the next 12 months to overhaul a squad of misfits.
