Manchester United to play in Dublin this August

Europa League finalists Manchester United are to play in Dublin this summer, the club have announced.

Jose Mourinho's side will play Serie A side Sampdoria in the Aviva Stadium on August 2nd. The teams have never played each other in a competitive match.

It's the second time United will play in the stadium after they played in the first football match in the stadium in 2010. Alex Ferguson's team beat a League of Ireland XI 7-1 on front of nearly 50,000 fans.

In announcing the game last week, the FAI confirmed the two teams "have 21 top flight league trophies between them". Sampdoria won one Serie A title in 1991.

This season saw Manchester United finish in sixth place, seven points outside the top-four. The team are guaranteed Europa League football next season, and could be in the Champions League if they win the Europa League Final against Ajax this week.

Sampdoria have one game left in their Serie A season. The Genoa club are currently in tenth place in will finish in the mid-table once the season concludes next weekend.

The game in Dublin will be Manchester United's seventh of a busy pre-season campaign that includes a Manchester Derby against Manchester City in America in July.
