Manny Pacquiao almost ready as title defence nears

Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao is nearing peak condition as his WBO welterweight title fight nears.

Boxing's only eight-division champion takes on unbeaten Australian Jeff Horn at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia on July 2nd.

The "Pacman" hasn't fought since he beat Jessie Vargas last November as he nears the end of his legendary career.

Speaking to the Manilla Times, Pacquiao's assistant trainer Jonathan Penalosa, said: "He is now 90 per cent ready for the battle. Starting Monday, we are going to lessen his training and sparring because he’s already in top shape.

“Unlike in his training in Manila, Manny is now faster. Last Tuesday, he already completed a 12-round sparring session and tomorrow (Thursday) he is going to spar for another 12 rounds."

Pacquiao (59-6-2) is looking for his first stoppage victory since a 2009 TKO win over Miguel Cotto and Penalosa expects the knock-out drought to come to an end in July.

"I believe with Manny’s latest condition, he is going to score a knockout win inside the five rounds," he added.

The 38-year-old goes into the bout on a two-fight win streak, beating Timothy Bradley and Vargas, after his defeat to Floyd Mayweather in 2015's "Fight of the Century".
