Manny Pacquiao gearing up for Australian test

Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao is gearing up for his fight against Jeff Horn in Brisbane in July.

The Filipino began training for the bout earlier this week as he prepares to defend his WBO welterweight title at Suncorp Stadium on Australia's east coast.

Speaking to the Courier Mail ahead of the bout, boxing's only eight division champion said he is looking forward to fighting in front of a huge crowd at the home of the Queensland Reds.

"I have no fear about boxing in front of a big crowd," he said, adding: "I fought Marco Antonio Barrera in San Antonio Texas once. There were thousands of Mexicans there to cheer him. The only friends I had were in my corner. But I still won. The first time I went to America nobody gave me a chance but I still won."

Pacquiao has been in the ring with the best-of-the-best so far during his legendary career and holds wins over Erik Morrales, Juan Manuel Marquez, Miguel Cotto and Oscar De La Hoya which has helped him amass a professional record of 59-6-2.

He takes on the relatively unheralded Australian Jeff Horn in the summer but the Filipino is not taking his opponent lightly.

"He’s a good boxer and a hungry challenger," Pacquiao said, adding: "I am not underestimating him. I have to make sure I am in 100% condition when we fight.

"I remember what it was like to be a young, hungry challenger. I would lie awake at night hoping for one chance and that is what Jeff Horn is like now. He is confident he can beat me."

Ireland's Michael Conlon is also due to fight on the undercard but his bout is yet to be confirmed.
