Marc Wilson is the only Irish player to suffer the 'Panini Curse'

When the Euro 2016 Panini sticker album, is looked back on in 20 years time, like a time-capsule, Marc Wilson will be the odd-man out.

The Stoke City defender is the only Irish player to feature in the album, and not make the 23-man squad. 20 players were selected to feature in the album, with goalkeeper Keiren Westwood, defenders Cyrus Christie and Shane Duffy along with midfielder Stephen Quinn failing to make the cut.

Wilson played in six of Ireland's 12 games in Euro 2016 qualification, most recently the play-off first-leg against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The 28-year-old started Ireland's first five games before he missed out through injury.

The 28-year-old was named in Ireland's initial 35-man provisional squad, before being ruled out last month with a knee problem. "Marc Wilson has had a setback", Martin O'Neill revealed just over a week ago. "The best thing for him is to take four or five weeks off. He will be out."

Compared to the Ireland squad, five of England's 20 players failed to make the shortlist. Luke Shaw, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Danny Welbeck missed out through injury. Leighton Baines and Theo Walcott simply suffered a loss in form and were not selected. At least they have their stickers as memories.
