Mario Balotelli looks set for Liverpool return

Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli is to return to the club, after his loan spell with AC Milan was not turned into a permanent deal.

The 25-year-old joined the Italian giants last summer on a season-long deal, but he only scored one Serie A goal in the process. The striker played 23 times in all competitions scoring three goals.

AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi confirmed the news on Wednesday of Balotelli's return to Liverpool. Speaking to TeleLombardia, the former Italian Prime Minister revealed that the striker was one of a number of stars that was to leave the club.

Balotelli joined Liverpool at the start of the 2014-15 season from AC Milan, but his sole season at Anfield was not successful. He only scored four goals for the team in 28 games.

A dip in form has seen Balotelli fail to be selected for Italy's Euro 2016 squad. He had featured in the Euro 2012 and 2014 World Cup teams scoring in both tournaments.

Whether or not Jurgen Klopp wants him, it looks like he will have another striker to call upon next season.
