Mario Balotelli was offered a £1million bonus for good behaviour in Liverpool contract

Mario Balotelli's time at Liverpool was an unproductive one.

The Italian striker, who joined the club with a reputation of a maverick, only spent a season at Anfield. He scored four goals (only one in the league) in 28 appearances.

Balotelli is now thriving in Ligue 1 at Nice. The 26-year-old has seven goals this season for the French side, as they are riding high at the top of the league.

When he signed for Liverpool, the club offered him a good-behaviour bonus in his contract. According to the Sunday Times, the striker was in line to earn an extra £1million for behaving "in a manner befitting of a Liverpool player".

His contract, which was revealed by Football Leakspublished the unusual clause in the contract.

"If during each season of the term of this contract the player is not dismissed from the field of play on three or more occasions for violent conduct, spitting at an opponent or any other person, for using offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or for dissent by word of action... then on the 30th June at the end of each season he shall receive a bonus payment of £1m."

Technically, Balotelli could have been caught spitting at an opponent on two separate occasions and still receive the bonus.

In his time at Liverpool, he was never send off. It's not known if he ever received the bonus.
