Mark Warburton claims he never resigned from Rangers

On Friday night, amid a flurry of confusion, Rangers announced that manager Mark Warburton, his assistant David Weir and the club's head of recruitment Frank McParland has resigned from their positions.

McParland joined the club in October 2015. Earlier that summer, Warburton and his assistant Weir (a former Rangers captain) joined the club.

Within an hour of the resignation announcement, the trio revealed that they had not in fact resigned and were unsure why it was announced they were. Rangers' Under-20 coach Graeme Murty took charge of the team on an interim basis for Sunday's Scottish Cup match against Greenock Morton.

In a statement released on Wednesday through the League Manager's Association, the trio confirmed they had not resigned from their positions.

"Given that the club has seen fit to make detailed public statements, it is important that we should clarify certain matters and as such we would like to formally place on record, that at no stage did we resign from our positions at Rangers."

"It is a matter of surprise to us, and to the League Managers Association (LMA), which is advising all three of us, that despite its detailed public statements, the club has not answered key questions put to it by the LMA, in writing, requesting an explanation of why it suggested that we resigned from our positions."

While the three men will not return to they club, they added that they were proud of their achievements with the Glasgow giants. In just over one-and-a-half seasons, the club won the Scottish Championship and also won the Scottish Challenge Cup.

"We sincerely thank the Rangers fans for their unwavering passion and dedication. We had the good fortune to meet so many outstanding individuals and supporters of the club and we will always value their words of encouragement. We wish them great success for the seasons ahead."
