Martin Russell leaves Limerick FC

Limerick FC have announced they have parted company with manager Martin Russell with immediate effect.

Russell is the first manager to lose his job in the League of Ireland this season. In Limerick's first seven games, the team have amassed seven points, with two wins and a draw.

The 49-year-old joined Limerick in 2014, but saw his side relegated the following season. Last year, the team dominated the First Division easily winning the title. They also reached the EA Sports Cup Final, where they lost to St. Patrick's Athletic.

In a statement released by the club on Monday afternoon, they claim that Russell had a meeting with the Limerick FC board on Monday morning, where it was agreed they would part ways.

“Following a meeting this morning the club and I have mutually and amicably decided to part-company", Russell said in a statement.

"I would like to place on record my sincere thanks to [chairman] Pat O’Sullivan for the opportunity to have managed Limerick Football Club. I would also like to wish everyone at the club, players and staff, the very best for the future in driving the club forward to achieve their goals".

Limerick return to Premier Division action this weekend against St. Patrick's Athletic in Richmond Park.
