He is due to fight Floyd Mayweather in August16:52 Thursday 29 June 2017, 16:52 29 Jun 2017
UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor is apparently considering a fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov in Russia for his return to the octagon later this year.
The Irishman is currently preparing for his boxing super-fight with Floyd Mayweather in August but UFC President Dana White insisted the Dubliner is looking beyond that fight.
“You know what Conor told me? ‘I want Khabib in Russia,'” he told MMAjunkie on Wednesday at UFC headquarters. “Isn’t he f**king awesome? He’s like, ‘I want Khabib, in Russia.’ He’s awesome. Conor McGregor is a f**king unicorn. There’s nothing like him. He’s working on boxing Floyd Mayweather and then he’s talking about fighting Khabib in Russia right after.”
Nurmagomedov was due fight Tony Ferguson earlier this year but the bout fell apart after the Dagestani suffered medical complications during his weight-cut.
The Russian confirmed earlier this week that he has unfinished business with Ferguson so a fight between the pair should produce the legitimate number one contender at 155lbs.
In other UFC related news, top heavyweight contender Junior Dos Santos will take on rising star Francis Ngannou at UFC 215 in September.
The Brazilian is coming off a loss to Stipe Miocic and a win could put him back in contention for a rubber match with the current champion.
