Members of the IABA want "to make life difficult for Billy Walsh" - Mick Dowling

The world of Irish boxing is in crisis today with reports this morning claiming Billy Walsh is to step down as the head of the High Performance Unit.

The Irish Independent and the Irish Sun report that Walsh is on the verge of leaving to move to a position with USA Boxing.

Nine time National Champion and two time Olympian Mick Dowling spoke to Newstalk Lunchtime this afternoon about the situation.

There are people in the Irish Amateur Boxing Association (IABA) that want "to make life difficult for Billy Walsh" according to Dowling. Walsh has seen the high performance unit win seven Olympic medals since taking over the position at the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.

Walsh "does not pick his own team", Dowling to Jonathan Healy and the two time Olympian says that he hopes the situation can be salvaged with the Rio Olympics less than 12 months away.
