New signing Memphis Depay opened his Manchester United account, latching onto a loose backpass during his side’s 3-1 over San Jose Earthquakes.
Depay signed for United for a fee of around €35m and has already started repaying the debt.
Juan Mata opened the scoring on 32 minutes as his lofted shot crept in at the back post, giving United control of the game.

Depay then doubled the lead four minutes later when a stray backpass ran away from the defender and the 21-year-old applied a cool finish to slot it into the bottom corner

San Jose pulled one back just minutes before the break, Shea Salinas cutting through the United defence from the right to set up Fatai Alashe who made no mistake.
Brazilian youngster Andreas Pereira rounded off the scoring on the hour mark, a quick dart into the six yard box allowing him to nod home from close range.

Both sides observed a minute’s silence for the victims of the Berkeley balcony collapse prior to the game as a mark of respect to those who were injured and sadly lost their lives.
It was a routine performance for Louis van Gaal and he’ll be hoping transfer talk surrounding the team won’t hinder thier performances.
