Michael Jordan's Olympic shoes become the most expensive of all time

A pair of shoes worn by Michael Jordan in 1984 have become the most expensive basketball shoes of all time.

Worn in the Final of the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, the Converse shoes which were signed by Jordan sold at auction for $190,373 (€170,000 approx).

The game is believed to be Jordan's last as an amateur. Just under two months before the Olympic Final, he was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the NBA, and turned professional ahead of the 1984 NBA season.

According to ESPN, the shoes were "obtained by a ballboy who happened to be the 11-year-old son of Los Angeles Lakers great Gail Goodrich. The game was played at The Forum in Los Angeles."

Jordan played throughout college in Converse shoes. Months into his professional career, he signed a deal with Nike which remains to this day. He also now has his own Jordan brand, which is a subsidiary of Nike.

While Jordan's shoes broke a record on Sunday, it was not the most expensive item sold at the auction.

A T206 Honus Wagner baseball card, which is widely seen as one of the most famous baseball cards in the World sold for $609,294. Although the date of the card is not known, the original run of cards was printed between 1909 and 1911.
