Michael O'Neill says Northern Ireland's Euro 2016 exit was harsh on his team.

The North were edged 1-0 by Wales in a tight Round of 16 encounter in Paris as Gareth McAuley's own goal proved to be the difference.

The tight margins meant defeat hurt more for O'Neill and his side, although they did make history by reaching the last-16 for the first time at a European Championship - even if that was at the back of the manager's mind.

"It's a very cruel way to lose the game. I don't think we deserved to lose the game - certainly not in that nature. At this minute in time it's difficult to reflect on the tournament as a whole," he said.
