"Mighty Mouse" defends his UFC title for the 9th time

UFC pound-for-pound king Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson defended his flyweightitle for the 9th time last night in Las Vegas.

He beat Challenger Tim Elliott in a unanimous decision after dominating most of the fight.

Johnson survived an early scare after the challenger caught him in a choke early in the first round.

Speaking afterwards Johnson said: “It was a tough first round. Tim Elliott’s a blitzer, so I stayed composed like a champion and just relaxed and worked my way out of it, and I knew my grappling was going to be able to beat him.”

Speaking after the bout, Elliott said: “I’m just a guy who loves to fight and I love my daughter, and I’m ready to get back in the next one.”

In the co-main event Joseph Benavidez beat Henry Cejudo via split decision to set up another tilt at the champion.

In a close and tense affair, Benavidez came through the contest by scores of 30-26, 29-27 and 27-29. The winner has already lost twice to the division's champion although a third fight is now on the cards.

Elsewhere, Jorge Masvidal beat Jake Ellenberger via first round TKO to improve to 31-12 as he looks to take on more ranked opponents in a bid for a title shot at 170 lbs.
