Mo Farah is a four-time Olympic gold medallist, and has raced around the world, but it looks like he may not be allowed enter the United States.

Farah is a British citizen. He emigrated from Somalia as an eight-year-old and went on to represent his adopted country to great acclaim on the track, road and cross-county.

United States President Donald Trump signed an order this week, banning refugees from six countries including Somalia entry into America. Farah, who regularly trains in Oregon, may not be allowed return there in the near future.

In a Facebook post, he compared the treated he received in Britain in recent weeks when he was awarded with a Knighthood, compared to being made "an alien" by Trump.

"Me and many others like me are being told that we may not be welcome. It’s deeply troubling that I will have to tell my children that Daddy might not be able to come home - to explain why the President has introduced a policy that comes from a place of ignorance and prejudice."

"My story is an example of what can happen when you follow polices of compassion and understanding, not hate and isolation."

Farah's story highlights what could become an issue for sporting organisations in America in the coming years. The IAAF World Athletics Championship is scheduled to take place in Oregon in 2021, the final year of Trump's presidential term.

On Sunday afternoon, the IAAF released a statement, stating they "clearly need to understand the implications of this new US immigration policy and will be seeking assurances that it will not adversely affect the IAAF World Championships in the USA in 2021."
