Mo Farah subjected to racial abuse on flight home from Rio, says wife

Mo Farah was allegedly taunted with racial abuse on the way home from the Rio Olympics which prevented them from boarding a plane, according to his wife.

Tania Farah told The Telegraph that they were preparing to fly home two days after her husband claimed gold in the 5,000m when a flight attendant allegedly refused to accept that Mo had a business class ticket.

Ms Farah claimed that the Delta Airlines flight attendant also called the long distance runner a "piece of shit" and told him "to get back into line".

A second official was required to intervene and verify Mo Farah's identity to allow him on to the plane where the Farah family were applauded by the other passengers. It's understood that the flight attendant was "mortified" when she realised her mistake.

After the incident, Mo Farah apparently called the steward "f****** pathetic" and "disrespectful" before demanding an apology.

In the interview, Ms Farrah also referred to the years of racist incidents she and Mo have suffered, stretching back to the 1980s. Referring to their Muslim faith, she said that she while it is important to them, she still feels nervous about discussing it in public.

A Delta Airlines spokesman told the newspaper: "We are investigating this situation and will be working directly with the Farah family."

He said that the company "takes precautions to protect customer data and information".
