Motion to recognise Club Players Association withdrawn

A motion to have the Club Players Association recognised as a body by the GAA has been withdrawn.

Motion 41 sought to recognise the CPA as the official representative body for club players at all grades eligible to play for adult teams.

The motion did meet opposition from delegates from Galway, Sligo, Down and Longford delegates, as well as former GAA President Nicky Brennan.

"We believe the CPA has a positive role to play in our Association. We believe they will not be a threat. They have stated their desire to work from within as members of the Association," Wexford delegate  Mary Foley said supporting the motion.

Brennan said: "I would ask the proposer of this motion to withdraw it and allow discussions to take place between the GAA and the CPA in the coming months. The CPA needs to set out much more clearly what their Modus Operandi is about."

Delegates from opposition counties pointed to the fact that the CPA was still in its infancy and some said they did not have a clear objectives.

Wexford and Tipperary delegates withdrew the motion shortly after this.
